Dr Phil Outram

Executive Principal

Dr. Phil Outram is the Executive Principal of Concord College International School. He studied Mathematics at Queens’ College, University of Cambridge, before completing a Doctorate in Astrophysics at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge.

Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Outram spent six years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Durham, conducting research into the evolution of large-scale structure in the universe through the analysis of extensive surveys of distant active galaxies. Alongside his research, he taught and supported both undergraduate and postgraduate students, an experience that inspired his transition from academia into secondary education.

Dr. Outram began his school leadership journey at Rugby School as a teacher of Mathematics before joining Concord College UK in 2008. Drawn by the College’s distinctive culture of academic ambition, integrity, humility and kindness, he quickly became deeply involved in all aspects of school life. Over the following twelve years, he served as Assistant Principal, leading key areas including examinations, enrichment, and whole-school strategic development.

A strong advocate for education beyond the classroom, Dr. Outram believes that character, resilience and global awareness are developed through meaningful experiences. He has led numerous student expeditions and educational visits around the world, including to Costa Rica, Madagascar, Bolivia and Kenya, helping young people broaden their horizons and develop confidence, independence and leadership skills.

In 2024, Dr. Outram relocated to Malaysia and was appointed as Executive Principal of Concord College International School. He is passionate about creating an exceptional educational environment where academic rigour, creativity and kindness work together to enable every student to thrive and fulfil their potential.
